Forma Home Systems current Leeds project:
Westside Road, Healdsburg Ca
By Garnett Thompson,
In today’s Greening of the building industry there are many different ways to earn your green designations. That is why we are excited to have a presence at this year’s West Coast Green conference in San Jose. The Westside Rd project in Healdsburg gives you an opportunity to see leading aspects that can be incorporated into a green project when laying out your budget.
Julie Dowling of Dowling Kimm Architects specializing in high end custom builds is the owner and co-builder with Paul White of Paul White Construction is the GC. This project is her personal residence where she ventures into the many aspect of green she will be offering her customers on future builds. Working closely with Kevin Gilleran of Gilleran Energy Management, energy consultants for green building, with much discussion and attention to detail they have incorporated the many green features listed below. Among the features a major component is the framing and window selection.
Julie and Kevin decided to use the Forma Home Systems, a fully automated panelized system working with wood framing. The factory’s waste is less than 3%, which is recycled. The product gives you a greater degree of accuracy, larger panels, for faster installation, less neighborhood disturbance, a cleaner build site, window installation in controlled environment and more.
Pre-building the entire home in the computer with sophisticated cad processes allows delta’s to be addressed up front before any lumber is cut. Forma considers the design center as the pre build site, every nail, hold down and window placement is detailed and reviewed resulting in a tighter envelope and less waste. A home that may have taken 6-8 weeks to frame on site, reduces the time by 40-60%.
Below is a list of many green features Julie is using in this incredible green build home.
We anticipate this home to be featured in Dwell and Builder Architect.
Westside Road
Healdsburg, CA
This project involves the design of a new custom home and lap pool on a 22 acre site with rolling hills and a steep wooded ravine. The building site is located on a hill top permitting expansive views of the Russian River Valley. Sustainable design is a high priority and every attempt is being made to utilize the most energy efficient systems and materials. The project is aiming for the highest rating possible within the LEED certification process. Completion is tentatively scheduled for Spring, 2009.
