Innovative “Clean Chute” Takes Trash Directly From Kitchen
to Garage, Aids in Easy Recycling

Merriam, KAN (September 10, 2008): What is the most efficient way to dispose of kitchen trash and recycle, at the same time? The answer is the Clean Chute®, a line of trash removal products from Enviro-Trash Concepts, based in Merriam, Kansas. The Clean Chute Recycle Centers are ecologically friendly and meet the stringent requirements established by the green home building and remodeling associations. Clean Chutes promote a healthy home and a cleaner environment.  Clean Chute Recycle Centers are manufactured from 80% recycled materials. The Clean Chutes will be on display at West Coast Green, Sept. 24-27, 2008.  The Clean Chutes are designed to follow the green/recycling movement.

The uniquely designed ‘trash containment and removal system’ was invented by retired attorney Loyd E. “Gene” Owen.  According to Owen, the Clean Chute permits the homeowner to easily remove trash and recyclables from the kitchen food preparation area via a stainless steel door and attached chute installed in the wall or back splash. “There is no longer a need for kitchen trashcans or compactors that can take up space and can be unsanitary,” says Owen.

Owen devised his invention out of practicality. In creating a solution for his own trash and recyclables, he developed a stainless steel ‘through the wall’ disposal chute that allowed for total use of cabinets and counter tops in his home. The Clean Chute eliminated the need to carry heavy trash compactor bags, or the need to empty the kitchen trash bin multiples times each week. It allowed him to simply roll a 55-gallon bin to the curb for pickup once a week. Friends and family members asked Owen about getting a chute for their own use. He then set about refining the original design, as well as developing manufacturing capabilities.

Today, his company, Enviro-Trash Systems, is displaying the chute products at kitchen design and home design industry tradeshows seeking to interest kitchen designers in including the Clean Chute in their projects, as well as setting up distributorships across the county. The invention has been featured on HGTV. Joining the company in 2005, partner Marilyn Oden-McGill is helping build a company around the product, setting up the distribution channels, and launching the marketing and promotion.

The 45° Clean Chute® system quickly slides all waste to its proper container in the garage, laundry room, or other adjacent area. The “through the wall” disposal chutes allow for total use of cabinets and kitchen space. A new counter top clean chute is now on the market.

The Clean Chute® is available in single or dual units. With the dual unit Clean Chute® model, trash and recyclables are placed through one door and the chute takes the items to two different receptacles, permitting the ecology-minded person to easily participate in a recycling program.

The Clean Chute® installs easily to the exterior side of a 12" × 12" opening using six screws placed into adjacent wall studs. The quick clamp bag retention system provides a secure attachment with easy removal. The chute system can be easily cleaned and maintained by popping off the back. Doors are available in stainless steel, copper, brass, white, or black.  Tile and wood can be attached to the doors, too.

Clean Chutes® are ideal for both residential and commercial usage, including the popular outdoor kitchen areas. Trash can be stashed away from patios via a Clean Chute installed in the wall of the BBQ pit. Clean Chutes® can also be installed in bathrooms or used as a laundry chute.

The suggested unit retail price for the Clean Chute with stainless steel door and galvanized chute is $750 (single unit) or $1,100 (two units). With an all-stainless chute, price is $825 (single unit) or $1,200 (two units). The Clean Chute 200 Split Chute is $1400 and the new Counter Chute is $800.

Units can also be custom manufactured to specification as to size, chute length, and configuration. The Clean Chute® can be included in the design of a new home or in a kitchen remodel project.
