NanaWall Systems Announces Trackless NanaWall for Exterior Applications
Floor-track optional feature now available for all individual panel sliding systems
MILL VALLEY, Calif. (September 24, 2008) — NanaWall Systems, the leader in opening glass walls, announces its newest product for builders, architects, and homeowners looking to blur the line between inside and outside. The NanaWall® Trackless is a floor-track-optional feature for all individual panel sliding systems.
NanaWall Systems has developed a new patent-pending adjustable locking receiver socket that makes it possible to use the trackless feature for exterior applications where water tightness is not a concern. By eliminating the floor track, there can be a seamless indoor/outdoor transition.
In the past, because of expansion and contraction of panels during different seasons of the year (i.e. expansion in summer, contraction in winter), the floor trackless NanaWall option was only recommended for interior applications.
NanaWalls for exterior applications are designed to meet structural and forced-entry requirements. Between each panel, there is a handle when turned 180 degrees that engages concealed shoot bolts at the top and the bottom. The top shoot bolts hook into the adjacent panel and the bottom shoot bolts latch into the floor. The new adjustable receiver socket can be adjusted up to 3/8 inch for each panel, taking care of any weather alignment changes.
One recently implemented example of a floor-track-optional system is the NanaWall HSW50 Trackless in a home by Sebastian Mariscal, principal of Sebastian Mariscal Studio. The floor-track optional NanaWall opens up three walls of a 35-foot by 35-foot room, changing a glassed-in living area (living, dining and kitchen) into an outdoor living area so the family can dine or relax “al fresco” while looking at a180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean.
“The NanaWall was the only system where we could have three walls of glass all in one system with one line of panels perfectly flush,” Mariscal said, who used the system in his home. In La Jolla, Calif., on an ocean view site, Mariscal designed a 4,500 sf home with a living area that blends indoors and outdoors.
Because of the trackless system, when the NanaWall system is open, there is no boundary between the interior and the exterior – even on the floor. With two 90-degree open corners, the custom application allows three exterior walls made of 25 panels to store out of view into a parking bay. The family also has the option of opening the walls partially. And when weather is bad, they can close up the system and use the incorporated swing doors on two walls to enter and exit the room to outside.
“This dual use of space makes the architecture more efficient and flexible,” said Mariscal. “In this house, the connection of the interior and exterior is the essence of the design. To live in the exterior is one of the most sustainable elements in architecture. To be connected to the elements and to live outside – to have that connection to nature – makes you more conscious of the environment.”
“For more than 20 years, NanaWall Systems has worked to provide the best in quality design and top German engineering,” said Ebrahim Nana, president of NanaWall Systems. “The NanaWall floor-track optional feature represents our company’s commitment to solving the engineering, building and architectural challenges of our customers.”
NanaWall Systems’ opening glass walls can be installed anywhere a traditional wall would stand and provide flexible, custom solutions to large architectural openings.
The Energy Star-certified SL60 NanaWall system is featured in the “SGBlocks Harbinger” Showhouse, designed by Lawrence Group, located at San Jose Convention Center, 408 Almaden Blvd., San Jose, California USA 95110; Exhibit Hall 2 and 3.
