The VULCAN physical water treatment system can eliminate
the problems created by hard water

Many areas of California, like San Jose, have high concentrations of minerals in the water supply that lead to well known problems caused by that “hard water”, such us reduced or stopped water flow in pipes from the buildup of scale, incrustation-induced damage to fixtures and appliances, hard to remove water stains and dry skin.

Until now, the best known technology in the U.S.A. to deal with hard water problems has been the use of water softeners that remove the calcium carbonate in the water and replace it with salt (a chemical water treatment).  The result is soft water that does not cause scale deposits but feels “slimy” on the skin and has salt in it that is not healthy for people, animals and plants and accelerates the corrosion of metal pipes and fixtures.  These chemical water treatment devices also require regular maintenance and must be refilled with salt.

Since public sewage systems are not designed to remove salt from the water, the effluent from water softeners has been recognized as a hazard to the environment.  This issue has been addressed by many cities in California by recommending the population not to use salt-based water softeners and by banning the installation of new units.  Currently the California State Congress is looking at Bill 2270 that would allow water agencies to ban water softeners if salt threatens recycling efforts.

At the upcoming West Coast Green, Quest will be offering the Vulcan as an alternative to water softeners.  The Vulcan is an electronic device from Germany that is widely used in Europe since 1991 to eliminate the scale problem without using a chemical treatment (e.g. salt-based water softeners).  Instead, as soon as the Vulcan is turned on, it produces a continuous electric impulse, which induces the calcium bicarbonate (lime) in the water to crystallize in the form of rods.  Instead of sticking to the pipe wall, the end of a faucet, the skin and hair or any other surface, these rods simply flow out with the water in the form of fine-grained powder.

The installation of the Vulcan requires no plumbing since the unit and the cables that transmit the electrical impulse are attached with cable ties to the outside of the main supply water pipe.  The Vulcan is powered by a 24 Volt AC adapter that plugs into any 110-220 Volt power outlet.

The Vulcan is designed to be able to provide the same scale protection for waters of different hardness and for variable water flows. Its effects are obvious within a few days, for example, any water spots on surfaces will be easy to remove with just a damp cloth, the water will feel softer when showering and less soap will be needed for washing.

If scale is already in the pipes, the action of the Vulcan will not only stop the scale accumulation but will also allow the gradual dissolution of the existing scale until only a single protective layer is left inside the pipes.  These effects will occur on any metal or plastic pipe.

Quest will be demonstrating the Vulcan 5000, which is designed for treating up to 22 gallons per minute, but the whole Vulcan line is comprised of six different models that range from the Vulcan 1000, which treats up to 4.5 gallons per minute, to the industrial Vulcan S 500, which treats up to 2222 gallons/minute.

Quest will be at West Coast Green, in booth 103 featuring the Vulcan and other products of its “Green and Clean” line, such as the Bidematic Bidet Kit and Organic Orange TKO.  Quest can also be contacted at its website: thebidetsolution.com and by phone at 707-578-6049.
