Action Hub: Activating your Dares

Action HubThe Action Hub at West Coast Green is a concept and a space available to all full or one day conference registrants. Room F in the Conference Center is a locus of activities designed to radiate through the conference and beyond.

Creation flourishes here. If you want to bring your hot idea to life, grow your business, take an existing network to a new level, or bring a new group alive - this is the place to be. You will find consultants, investors, movers and shakers, academics, investors, facilitators and experienced coaches, in the Action Hub. You can’t be too edgy for the Action Hub.

Pitch Your Hot Ideas to an Investor


On Thursday from 4:30 – 6:30 in the Action Hub (Room F) Participants work in small groups based on cross cutting topical areas that might include building and energy efficiency, regenerative design… They enhance initiatives and venture-worthy proposals to share with the entire group.  The group will select representative ideas for vetting by an Investor’s Panel on Friday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30.

Refine your business plan or your Pitch


Consultants are in the House!
In the Thursday 1:30 to 4:00  or Friday 3:00 to 4:00 consulting hours, you can articulate your back-of-the-envelope idea, or refine your developing initiative and shape it to the pitch session format.

Design Sustainable West Oakland


This 1:30 – 6:30 Friday afternoon Charrette moderated by John Knott is designed to deliver a process as well as tangible outcomes for re-developing an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable West Oakland. In your Program Guide it is titled Creating Regenerative Developments, Part I, II, and III. Participate in this Charrette with all levels of the community: Government, Non-Profits, Business, Designers, and Citizens. Meet in the Almaden Ballroom in the Hilton. Space in this event is limited.

Academic Forum


Academics share ideas on how educational institutions can meet the accelerating demand for sustainable design skills and approaches.  The Academic Forum begins with lunch on Friday and extends to 2:30pm.  For the required advance registration, please send an e-mail to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with Academic Forum in the Subject and be sure to include your affiliation.

Masters of Green Building and Design


We don’t want to scare anyone away from this who might be too modest about their own accomplishments over time. If you think you are an early adopter convene during lunch on Saturday in the Action Hub (Room F) and through to 2:30pm on how to develop yourself and your networks.  Jon Alexander has done some interviews with Masters that you can see here.

Networking Cafes –  With your Coffee in Hand


Some of these take place in the Action Hub.  They will be held each morning from 8 – 9. In three rooms.  They will be facilitated so you can come and accelerate your connections. Think Speed dating. Click here to check out an affinity group and a time.

Conversation Forums – Lunch with Experts


Grab your lunch and come to share ideas with an expert.  Each expert will host one of nine tables in this space. They will pose three questions to address in conversation with you. This is a great opportunity to get the questions answered and meet people that can launch you into new possibilities. Click here to see a schedule.

Designing a Mars Community


This is a way to put all you’ve learned into a scenario. On Friday in the Action Hub, Room F from 3:00 – 4:00. You can participate in a hands-on, brainstorming workshop facilitated by Mars experts from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory who will challenge you to push beyond conventional ideas and consider the future of sustainability as you rethink energy, food, waste, and habitat design solutions for a future Martian community of 100 people.
